The mission of the Aubrey Rose Foundation is, & always has been, to help families that are caring for medically-fragile children suffering from life-threatening illnesses, while maintaining a focus on family unity. With the help of our many volunteers and donors, the Aubrey Rose Foundation does many different things in order to lift the weight of life’s complexities. Providing emotional support and the chance to enjoy a bit of “normal life” in the midst of a terrible situation is something so very important and positive for these children and their families, as we’re reminded in the note from a family we helped below.
“I wanted to let you know how much you touched our lives … it was the night before my daughter’s surgery and we didn’t go to the (holiday) party that night … we were sitting in our room when you helpers came in with a cart of wrapped gifts and asked if they could give something to my Hannah … You gave us like 30 presents. I was so overwhelmed. I thought we were getting one present and we we got a bunch. Not only for Hannah but also for my step daughter Rachel and my husband and I. We also got a small Christmas tree we had in the corner on the desk … It seemed to be our darkest hour not knowing how the surgery would go the next day and even if she could get off the vent at 10 weeks old and this shining light showed up giving us hope. I still remember everything to this very day. It was terrifying and here was this amazing light of hope offered to us. We got your night of who Aubrey Hollenkamp was and all I could think in that moment was “imagine how the most tragic thing that could happen to a family could be my most touching, joyous memory”. Just in case you ever wonder how you have touched people with your work. Please know how much you mean to my family.” Kimmee
