Hello Everyone,

It’s hard to believe that November is here. This is a very special month for us – We get to celebrate Aubrey’s birthday on the 12th and remember her death day on the 10th. She would have been 12 this year! We often wonder what she would have been like.

Jerry has always said that she would be an athlete and a good mixture of Carly and Spencer. I often think that she would have had us all wrapped around her little fingers – she had that twinkle in her eye and that smile that would have allowed her to get away with just about anything! I’m sure she would have been Grandma and Grandpa’s pride and joy and would have loved playing with all of her cousins.

But the two that she would have loved the most would have been her sister and brother, Carly and Spencer. Oh, to think about what could have been... Carly and Spencer loved playing with and taking care of Aubrey and each one had their own special bond with her. They still do, just in a different way now – just like Jerry and I – she will always be our little girl!

We thank God everyday for the gift of our children and for the joy that each one has brought to us. We also thank God for choosing us to be their parents. Losing one of our children has been the hardest thing we have ever experienced but God had another plan for Aubrey and for us. When Aubrey died, her job on this earth was done, and ours just began!

We are so blessed to have started the Aubrey Rose Foundation just 3 months after Aubrey died and just look at the people’s lives Aubrey is continuing to touch from way up in Heaven. That little girl is still smiling and that twinkle is still there and she is guiding our every move!

Please know that we are working hard and we are working smart to help many, many more children with life-threatening medical conditions and their families. We are so blessed to have so many wonderful, kind, compassionate and loving individuals who are rallying around Aubrey’s Foundation in order to help the mission. Read below to see what the Foundation has been up to and please know that we welcome you to join us at any time. I can guarantee, if you do… you’ll have a smile on your face and you’ll get a twinkle in your eye!

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart and double lungs for your support, your kindness and most of all your belief in the Foundation!

Jerry, Nancy, Carly, Spencer and Saint Aubrey Hollenkamp
George and Nancy Frondorf, (Aubrey's Grandparents)

Difference Maker Award

The Aubrey Rose Foundation received the Duke Energy Children's Museum's Second Annual Difference Maker Award. This award honors those youth and adult individuals and businesses or agencies that go above and beyond to better the lives of children in their communities. This years recipients include individuals with Aubrey’s Foundation being the only organization that was chosen.

We would like to thank our niece, Maria Dehne who nominated the Foundation for this prestigious award. The nominees are voted on by a panel of community judges. The panel of 7 judges that were in charge of voting voted unanimously for Aubrey's Foundation and that has never happened before. We’re quite honored to have received this award.

Ronald McDonald Dinner

We held our “Trick or Treating” Party at the Ronald McDonald House on October 17. The House looked “spooktacular” with all of our Halloween decorations hanging from the ceiling and displayed throughout. We had a wonderful group of volunteers who took the time to dress up in costume for the families enjoyment and who also participated in the indoor trick or treating so that families living at the House would not miss out. It was a great time and the little ghosts and goblins were smiling from ear to ear!

These dinners are to help rejuvenate the families living at the Ronald McDonald House so that they can continue caring for their sick child. It’s amazing because we set out to do good for others but we and all of our volunteers get so much more out of this… just talking to the families and hearing their stories is so very rewarding. That’s why we like to share this very special night with many and we like to give tours of the House so that people can see that this home away from home is such a calm in the middle of a storm for many of these families.

Our job is to make these families feel “Wowed” if only it is for an hour – they need to feel special so that a smile can come to their face again! If you would like to join us for future Ronald McDonald House dinners, please send Nancy an email at nancy@aubreyrose.org and she will sign you up for future dinners.

Relia Dose Update

We are very pleased to say that we have given out all 28 skids of the Relia Dose baby bottles that were donated to us. These bottles have gone all over the United States and the world. We had a booth at the Harvest Home Fair where we gave out over 5000 of these wonderful bottles. If we heard this phrase one time, we heard it a thousand times over when people would see the bottle and realize the value of It, they repeatedly said, “I wish I had that when my kids were little.”

The unique medical dosing bottle has become invaluable to so many who received our distribution. We have given these bottles to many individuals and over 25 different organizations with the last of the bottles going to Kuwait for our military through Operation Troop Aid and Steel Anchor organization. We’re very excited about this donation and we know that these bottles will definitely help babies in need.

Scholarship Program

It’s that time of the year for our Scholarship Program to get going. We’re very proud to say that we are expanding this program from Catholic grade schools in Cincinnati and adding Catholic grade schools in Boone, Campbell and Kenton Counties in Kentucky and also Catholic schools in Dearborn County in Indiana.

We have sent out letters out to the principals of these schools and it’s up to them as to whether they would like to participate in our Scholarship Program. If the school does want to participate, the principal must fill out our form that we sent to them and return it to us by Monday, December 7th.

If your school does participate in this Scholarship Program, you can go to http://www.aubreyrose.org/scholarship.htm to print out the scholarship application. We believe that humanity begins in children and their realization of how valuable their actions, words, or even a smile can be toward individual growth and to the everyday well being of the people surrounding them. In memory of Aubrey Rose Hollenkamp, we follow through our mission of carrying out the positive impact she had made on so many people by helping children and families who have also made a positive impact on the people around them.

Not only are we increasing the areas for the scholarships to be given but we are also increasing the number of these awards. For 2010, we will be giving out 35 scholarships to deserving individuals who have a kind heart.

The Baja Project & The Faster Pastor

The Aubrey Rose Foundation is collaborating up with Christian Chapman, "The Faster Pastor," a preacher in Charlotte, North Carolina to help him and his ministry reach out to 1000's of children so close to the USA in his unusual approach to ministry. The Baja Project is an opportunity to do outside of the box ministry that most churches cannot do because their focus is inwardly driven by discipleship and local community outreach.

Aubrey’s Foundation thinks this is a natural fit to partner with the Baja Project because our goal is to put smiles on the faces of many children and their families. The Baja Project is trying to do the same thing through their ministry.

We have asked the Cincinnati area schools if we could have their students draw a picture or write a short prayer or letter of encouragement to these children that will be placed in the Spanish language Bibles and will be handed out to those in the Ensenada area. We are pleased to report that we had a huge response and we have beautiful cards and letters that we are sending to these children.

Please say a prayer for Christian and company as they go on this sometimes dangerous journey of riding through the Baja Project area on a motorcycle.

Message Board "Thank You's" from families

On the Aubrey Rose Foundation web site is a message board where families we have helped and others can write messages. We would like to highlight a message on this board:

"Dear Jerry and Nancy:

We can't begin to thank you for the generous grant that paid the balance of our daughters medical bills!! Chloe was diagnosed August of 2008 with Rhabdomyosarcoma (cancer). She has been a fighter just like Aubrey Rose. The interesting thing is that one of our first contacts with the Oncology staff someone mentioned the Aubrey Rose Foundation.

As our fight went on, we became bogged down with just getting thru the weeks and months. Chloe has been done with Chemo since January 30, 2009. She is cancer free and we pray for that blessing to continue. I'm sure Aubrey Rose must be an angel that continues to touch lives of families with ill children around the world. You have blessed us so much. . . we will continue to spread the light and Aubrey Rose's touching story. May many blessings be yours. . . "

It’s because of your belief in Aubrey’s Foundation and through your support that we can help families in need with financial, spiritual and emotional support. Having a child who is medically fragile is hard enough but when you add the financial burden on top of everything, that can be quite overwhelming. Our goal is to lessen this burden and to let these families know that people really do care and so giving families grants to help relieve some of the burden can be so uplifting. These families have some of their burden relieved and the better part is that our grant can put a smile on their faces and help to rejuvenate these families so that they can continue caring for their sick child.
